Breast mastopexy, commonly known as a breast lift, is a surgical procedure designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. It restores a youthful breast contour, improves nipple position, and enhances overall breast symmetry, all without necessarily increasing breast size.
This procedure may be suitable for you if:
At Bollin Clinic in Altrincham, Consultant Plastic Surgeon Mr Aftab Siddiqui will evaluate your breast anatomy and discuss your goals to design a personalised surgical plan.
The procedure involves removing excess skin, repositioning the nipple and areola, and tightening breast tissue to create a firmer, uplifted breast shape.
Depending on the degree of sagging, different incision patterns may be used: around the areola, vertically down the breast, or in an inverted “T” shape.
You’ll be monitored closely after surgery and receive guidance on caring for your breasts during healing. Most patients return to light activities within 1–2 weeks and full activity in 4–6 weeks.
A breast lift primarily reshapes and lifts your breasts; it does not significantly change breast volume. If you desire increased size, breast implants can be added during the procedure.
Scars depend on the incision pattern but are typically located around the areola, vertically down the breast, or along the breast crease. Scars usually fade over time but may remain slightly visible.
The procedure usually takes 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the complexity and whether implants are used.
Most patients resume light activities in 1–2 weeks and return to full exercise in 4–6 weeks. You’ll need to wear a supportive bra and avoid heavy lifting during recovery.
While a breast lift provides long-lasting results, natural aging, gravity, pregnancy, and weight changes can affect breast shape over time.
Many women can breastfeed after a mastopexy, but it depends on the surgical technique and individual factors. Discuss your plans with your surgeon during consultation.
